Il sogno della Cadillac

Ho sognato di essere me
che scriveva questa poesia

e poi lo ero davvero

Da bambino
la gente nei film
a cui sparavano nella schiena
moriva sempre

L’idea era
che quando un cattivo diceva
"Voltati"
era meglio non farlo
anche se la vittima si voltava sempre

Una cosa chiamata poesia non esiste
Solo questa poesia esiste

O quell'altra
e la pallottola volava

Diventare umani
deve essere stato terrificante
così hanno trovato cose
per distrarsi
Hanno sognato di essere se stessi
in una Cadillac

Esiste solo una Cadillac
al mondo
Le altre sono sogni di Cadillac

Ho visto l'acqua
ma non sono riuscito a farla essere
nient'altro

Il bicchiere non era né mezzo pieno
né mezzo vuoto il bicchiere
ancora non c'era

Come il mattino quando è appena dietro l'angolo
ma non lo puoi vedere perché è
ancora buio
anche se puoi sentire la Cadillac che ha dentro
con il motore acceso
la Cadillac immobile

finché lo spigolo sfocato dell'angolo non appare
nell'alba
e tutto arriva a essere lì per un attimo
prima di essere lì

The Dream of the Cadillac

I dreamed I was me
writing this poem

and then I was

When I was a child
people in movies
who got shot in the back
always died

The idea was
that when the bad guy said
“Turn around”
you’d better not do it
though the victim always did

There is no such thing as a poem
Only this poem exists

Or that one
and the bullet flew

Becoming human
must have been terrifying
so they found things
to distract them
They dreamed they were they
in a Cadillac

There is only one Cadillac
in the world
The others are dreams of Cadillacs

I saw the water
but could not make it be
anything else

The glass was neither half full
nor half empty the glass
was not there yet

Like how morning is just around the corner
but you can’t see it it’s
still dark
though you can hear the Cadillac in it
the engine running
the Cadillac not moving

until the dim edge of the corner appears
in the dawn
and everything gets to be there for a moment
before it’s there
